Steve Surachman focuses his practice on copyright and trademark litigation, representing brand owners and creators across a spectrum of industries in trademark, copyright, enforcement, and counseling matters. Steve has extensive experience representing intellectual property owners in federal and state court and before the Trademark Trial and Appeal Board. He also counsels clients on a wide variety of other IP-related issues with the goal of minimizing and managing his clients’ legal risk, advising on issues involving copyright and trademark clearance, portfolio management, social media, and right of publicity.
Additionally, Steve has represented numerous pro bono clients in cases spanning various areas of law, including immigration, discrimination, housing, and election law. For his significant pro bono efforts, the Justice and Diversity Center of the Bar Association of San Francisco awarded Steve its 2016 outstanding Volunteer Award.
Before joining O+Z, Steve was an associate at the top-ranking, international law firms of Kilpatrick Townsend & Stockton LLP and Quinn Emanuel Urquhart & Sullivan LLP, where he represented individual and corporate clients in federal and state courts and arbitration.
Steve is a member of the California Bar and is not yet admitted to practice in the District of Columbia. Steve earned his Master’s Degree in Economic Law from Sciences Po, Paris in 2014, his J.D. from Georgetown University Law Center in 2014, and his B.A. from Harvard University in 2011. Steve speaks fluent Spanish, French, Indonesian, and Malay.
